I often walk to work, and my eyes frequently land on materials that suggest some of the papers I could use in collage. Sometimes it’s the reverse – a new type of paper arrives at the store, and I’ll see a similar surface on the way home, and a new collage idea emerges. Here’s a list of some of the things I see, followed by images of some of the papers I like:
- Large brush marks in the cement of a driveway
- Slate tiles
- Pockmarked concrete panels
- Ribbed concrete
- The polished and worn floor of Village By The Grange
- Weathered fence lumber
- Big day lilies
- Fallen leaf stains on the sidewalk
- Tangle of vines
- Tree bark
- Worn leather bike seat
- Wet cement
- Grass clippings
- And rust, rust, rust
