The 2nd Great Chiyogami Giveaway!!

Three years ago we began our annual tradition of a holiday giveaway with The Great Chiyogami Giveaway.  When trying to decide what to offer this year we thought – what can really top hundreds of sheets of Chiyogami?  Our answer was…. nothing!  So we are proud to announce The 2nd Great Chiyogami Giveaway!!

This year we have put together the ultimate Chiyogami prize package, one 8.5×11 sample sheet of each of the over 700 patterns we offer online! For those of you who have not worked with Chiyogami before (sometimes called Yuzen), prepare to have your mind blown.  This silkscreen paper is created by building up layers of ink to create papers with stunning depth and beauty (click here to see the process!).

Here are the ways you can enter:

First, simply leave a comment below. That will earn you 1 entry in the contest.

Want to increase your odds? Mention our contest in your blog using one of the pictures from this post and add a link to your post in your comment below. This will earn you 5 extra entries.

Another way to earn 5 extra entries is to add a link in your comment to a photo of any artwork you have done that incorporates Chiyogami in it.  Please only post links to photos you have permission to use of work YOU have done.

You will receive 1 additional entry per tweet!

And finally, for the Chiyogami Super Fans out there (and we know you are out there!), make a video, upload it to Youtube and provide a link in your comment below. Let us know why you should be the one to win, the more creative the better – doing so earns you 50 extra entries!!!

The contest will run from December 1st – December 15th, 2011. The winner will be chosen by using a random number selector and notified after the close of the contest. Remember, for us to contact you should you win, you must enter your email address in the appropriate box provided when submitting your post. It will remain private and NOT be used for any solicitation purposes! If you do wish to join our email list, you can do so at the bottom of the blog menu.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

  256. Ruthee says:

I am so addicted to paper, especially chiyogami paper. The richness of the colour just suits so many different paper projects that I get involved with. And truthfully, I just love Japanese paper. I can spend hours just looking through the patterns and colours. When it actually gets down to working with it, I lose all track of time and have looked up at the clock to find that several hours have elapsed and the clock on the wall says that it is after 4 a.m., well and truly past my bedtime. LOL To have a stash of chiyogami paper like the bundle shown in the picture, would be a dream come true and I would spend hour upon hour through the winter, spring, summer and fall finding ways to use this paper to showcase its beauty and post the pictures in my blog – http://rutheemac-myartisticjourney.blogspot.com/ If I were lucky enough to win, I can guarantee you that my squeals of delight would be heard in many countries.

I know a few hundred little “folders” and “wanna be folders” that would love to work with this chiyogami paper. As a teacher without a classroom I meet and apprentice many in the creation of origami paper stars. I borrow, recycle and re purpose paper to supply the star builders and I must mention, the thousand stars we made out of silver hot lunch wrappers in a little rural school. When we hung them… LUMINEUX! If children are taken seriously when offered quality “creating” materials they feel their own value. They come to honour and work respectfully with beautiful objects. Next trip to your shop I shall be making some lovely choices for “my little folding peeps.”

what would I do with all of that amazing Chiyogami paper?? Well I think I would defintiely use it in some special book projects and I’d bring a bunch with me to havana, cuba where I do volunteer work with children and artists in a community project known as Muraleando. They have so little of everything and I always bring all my supplies with me to do book workshops with them …these papers would blow their minds!!! I generally try to bring some nice papers with me and they are treated like gold to this community…very special. I will cross my fingers and say a little prayer or two. Thank you for the opportunity. Very generous of the Paper Place!!!

  380. Hi! Awesome contest – wish I had found it earlier. I’m an art student at the Alberta College of Art and Design and over this last semester I have focused on a whole class to origami – using origami in an artistic, aesthetic context. As well, I am in progress of silkscreening my own chiyogami paper!! I haven’t quite finished yet, but I will post photos up on my blog, hopefully by Monday next week as the project is due next Wednesday (Dec7).
Thanks so much for this great opportunity!!!
