Hand Paper-cut Cards

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

I’ve been really inspired by some of the beautiful Rob Ryan items around the store lately. I thought that I would undertake some paper-cuts of my own. I free-hand cut the cards carefully with an x-acto knife.

I made a congratulations card for my sister who just had a baby boy from Night cardstock (available in-store).

I also made a wedding card for some friends using the folded cards (sold in sets of 10) and the Carta Varese Bluten u. Beeren 720 Decorative paper (available in-store).  I embellished the envelope with a rubber stamp in Robin’s Egg pigment ink.

The Paper Place’s 3rd Annual 6X8 call for submissions and art exhibition is back!

The 6X8 event is an opportunity for Toronto artists to try their craft upon a piece of handmade Japanese kozo card and inevitably fall in love with it! It is a challenge to produce a piece of original artwork that brings out the inherent beauty of the washi paper provided. Prizes will be awarded to Best in Show and Runner-up, judged by The Paper Place staff and local artists (TBA). Artists may make work in any medium with any theme, the only stipulation is that the work use the 6X8 Etchu Hagaki.

You may register at The Paper Place, in person up until September 30th. Completed works must be returned by October 1st to be included in the exhibition.

The 6X8 works will be on display at The Paper Place from October 10th until October 30th. Join us for an opening reception Wednesday, October 10th from 7-9pm.

My Colourful Affair

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

I have posted about the love I have for Gampi Silk Tissue on this blog before. Well . . . my affair continues, and I am always in awe of  how the supple surface of this paper responds to my acrylic paints. Watered down paints turn into luscious hues and I can never hold in my excitement for the result that I am going to get with every colour I mix. The tissue can handle a pretty good amount of heavy brush strokes and still give off a good shine.
