Many of our customers come into the store with questions about how to cover a window or screen a doorway.

Tissue curtains at The Paper Place

These panels cover the windows at the back of our store.  Hung on tension rods, the panels are made from small pieces of Japanese tissue which has a unique fabric-like quality and durability. 

One of our favourite ways of piecing paper is on a sewing machine.

To create panels for your window you will need:

- a selection of Japanese tissues

- a regular sewing machine with a fine needle

- coordinating thread

- straight edge ruler

- sharp utility knife

- tension rod

Measure the window to be covered.

Piece blocks of tissue with a ¼ inch seam into strips approximately the width of your window.  When you have enough strips to make up the length (with enough excess to create a channel for the tension rod), trim each strip to get a straight edge and piece the strips together, again with a ¼ inch seam.  With the panel complete you can trim the whole thing to your exact measurements.

The hardest part of this project is deciding which papers to use!
