Artist Spotlight: John Werlich

Monday, June 29th, 2015

I’m continually amazed and impressed to discover what some of the artists that frequent our shop do with our papers. John Werlich is a skilled paper artist who creates beautiful mosaic style scenes with some of our Chiyogami and Japanese decorative papers. A descendant of artists, his great-grandfather being a master weaver, John has inherited a great skill and perfected a practice that requires a keen sense of attention to detail and precision. I particularly love the dramatic contrast John achieves by using our black and gold Tairei papers in so many of his backgrounds. Be sure to click each image below to enlarge them and view their details.

I LOVE TOYS

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014

If you have not been to The Design Exchange in Toronto, GO! “This Is Not A Toy” ends on May 19th and it will delight toy enthusiasts of all ages. The exhibition is the world’s first and it features sculptures, figurines and artworks created by contemporary artists such as Takashi Murakami, KAWS and Huck Gee.

After going to the exhibition I had a compulsion to look at all things cute and needed to share a couple of my favourite “oh so cute” chiyogami designs.
