Creative Card Ideas

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

I always give a handmade card for birthdays. But year after year the pressure is on to top the card from the previous year!  I am always on the look out for new ideas, pop-ups or different unique shapes to make my cards.  The Encyclopedia of Paper-folding Designs is full of innovative card templates from an assortment of Japanese designers. I gave a few of them a try by enlarging the templates on a copy machine and transposing them to card stock.  They are super fun!

Cute kitty cards!  These guys are beyond adorable. They make a sweet note or even fun table place cards.

This cool geometric card folds out from a neat pentagram into a long banner style card.  It could be adapted for whatever occasion.  The pentagram shape would make a lovely Christmas star!

Heart shaped petals peel open to reveal your message on this one.  It’s perfect for Valentine’s day!

The Encyclopedia of Paper-folding Designs is a great resource for any avid card maker and is available with all your other fun card making supplies at The Paper Place!

Hand Paper-cut Cards

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

I’ve been really inspired by some of the beautiful Rob Ryan items around the store lately. I thought that I would undertake some paper-cuts of my own. I free-hand cut the cards carefully with an x-acto knife.

I made a congratulations card for my sister who just had a baby boy from Night cardstock (available in-store).

I also made a wedding card for some friends using the folded cards (sold in sets of 10) and the Carta Varese Bluten u. Beeren 720 Decorative paper (available in-store).  I embellished the envelope with a rubber stamp in Robin’s Egg pigment ink.

Decorative Paper Envelopes and Liners

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

I believe that first impressions are most important.  The outside should be just as special as the inside, so why not try setting the mood with handmade decorative paper envelopes!

Envelopes can be made out of just about any kind of paper you like.  I chose papers that complemented the notes and cards I was mailing. Matching the paper inside to the envelope to create an unique set. I made them even better by adding corresponding liners to the inside of the envelopes.  What a nice surprise to receive in your mailbox!

Katazome-shi and Nepalese handmade paper combined for some nautical inspiration!

Soft and pretty Italian paper note to send to someone sweet!

Bright floral Chiyogami lined in Japanese metallic to hold a special Katazome-shi postcard!

Washi tape embellished escort cards enclosed in baby Kiri-ita paper envelopes, so cute!

I made all of these envelopes and liners with super easy to use template kits!  New in store at The Paper Place, these kits have standard mailing sizes 4bar, A2, A6, A7, 5.75 square as well as a little baby coin envelope.  Definitely a must have for any avid card crafter!
